Recently, San Bernardino had a terrible shooting. Fourteen people were killed and many others wounded.
The NY Daily News came out with this title on the cover of their magazine “God Isn’t Fixing This,” then listed several political leaders who had prayed for the victims and those affected by the San Bernardino shootings.
How is it that a “God of love” can allow such violence and death to continue? The answer is simple: He is giving people the opportunity to be saved from eternal death. If He immediately destroyed every sinner, there would be no hope for any of us to accept His salvation and escape His justice.
Do you see God’s kindness and generosity? The Bible calls it “longsuffering,” which means that God is patient with us; trying to get us to accept the only way of eternal life. This is why the arrogant attitude displayed by the Daily News is so repulsive to those who understand God’s motives. We see the incredible patience of God, but also the righteous judgment that He is withholding. God-fearing people pray that His patience will continue longer, so more will have the opportunity to respond to His Gospel.
There are two possible “fixes” for our nation. The first is that the people of this nation accept Jesus as their personal Savior. That is the best one, and the one for which God is holding back the second. The second (the one that God can do immediately, yet He abstains) is that God judge every sinner. This is God’s least favorite option, because:
Ezekiel 33:11 “Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live…”
So He waits. He gives people an opportunity; and people do wrong in the meantime.
The way to immediately “fix this” is Divine judgment. He can do that, but He hates to kill. Do not mock God. He is incredibly patient. Ponder this verse for a moment, it sums up the whole article.
2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
God has a “fix,” His Name is Jesus Christ. If you are interested in God’s motive for postponing justice, check out this hyperlink to “The Salvation Equation.”
